Bring Your Own CloudPro

Run Paradev on a server in your own cloud and open it from the desktop or phone app

Overview

Paradev can run agents on a Linux server in your own cloud account. Your repos and agent sign-ins are stored on that server. You open its workspaces from the desktop or phone app, the same as workspaces on your laptop.

What still leaves the server, besides normal calls to GitHub and the Paradev API:

  • The host keeps a connection to the Paradev relay, so your devices can find it.
  • Agents send what they read to their model provider, using your keys.
  • When you open a workspace from another device, its terminal and port traffic passes through the relay.

This is different from cloud workspaces, where Paradev runs the machine for you. Pick it when your repos must be stored in your own account, or when you want to control the machine.

The host binds to 127.0.0.1 and reaches your devices through the Paradev relay, so the server needs no open inbound ports.

Requirements

  • A paid plan. The server is a Remote Access host.
  • A Linux server, x64 or arm64. If your project runs well on an 8 GB laptop, a server with 4 vCPU and 8 GB is enough.
  • git and gh on the server, and the agent CLIs you want to run. See Host Server prerequisites.

1. Install the CLI

On the server:

curl -fsSL https://paradev.com/cli/install.sh | sh

This installs Paradev under ~/superset and adds ~/superset/bin to PATH for new shells. For the current session, run:

export PATH="$HOME/superset/bin:$PATH"

See Getting Started.

2. Sign in to GitHub and your agents

gh auth login

For a server without a browser, set GH_TOKEN instead. Then start each agent CLI once over SSH (for example claude) and sign in, so it can run later without you.

3. Start the host

Create an API key in Settings → API Keys, then:

export SUPERSET_API_KEY=sk_live_…
superset start --daemon --org <id|slug|name>
superset status

--org is needed only if the key belongs to more than one organization. See Headless hosts.

To keep the host running across reboots, run it under systemd instead: Run it under systemd. First stop the host you started above:

superset stop --org <id|slug|name>

Use the same --org you passed to superset start, or leave it out if you did.

systemd does not see variables you exported in your shell. Put them in a file only root can read, such as /etc/superset/host.env:

SUPERSET_API_KEY=sk_live_…
# Only if the key belongs to more than one organization:
SUPERSET_ORGANIZATION_ID=<id>
# Only if you used GH_TOKEN instead of gh auth login:
GH_TOKEN=…

Then add EnvironmentFile=/etc/superset/host.env to the unit's [Service] section.

4. Add your repos

Clone a repo onto the server:

superset projects create --name "My Project" --local \
  --clone https://github.com/org/repo.git --parent-dir ~/code

If the project already exists on another machine, attach this server to it with projects setup instead. See Create or adopt a project.

5. Work on it

  • Desktop: press ⌘N, pick the server in the device picker, and start a workspace. The ports its dev servers open are forwarded to your machine.
  • iPhone and iPad: the server appears next to your other hosts in the mobile app.
  • Teammates: grant them access to the host.

Security

  • Use a server for Paradev only. Anyone you grant access to can reach everything the host can, including its agent sign-ins.
  • Keep only the repos and credentials you mean to share on it.
  • Agents still use your own subscriptions and keys. Paradev does not proxy model calls.
